The study addresses the need to strengthen operational safety in the maintenance of heavy machinery in the construction sector, proposing the adaptation of the Operational Safety Management System (SMS) used in aviation. The objective was to structure a model that allows for the identification, assessment and mitigation of risks, integrating 4.0 technologies such as mobile applications, Power BI analysis and key performance indicators (KPIs). Methodologically, a mixed approach was used with sequential phases of identification, assessment, mitigation and continuous monitoring. The main results showed significant improvements in traceability, a progressive reduction in incidents and greater alignment with safety goals after implementing an app for reporting events and using KPIs. The digitisation and structuring of processes enhances the preventive culture and enables more efficient and proactive maintenance management. This proposal has proven to be replicable in similar industrial contexts with high operational demands.
