Legalisation of equal marriage and its social effect [Legalización del matrimonio igualitario y su efecto social]

The aim of this article is to analyse the rate of discrimination against same-sex couples after the approval of equal marriage in Ecuador. This study was developed under a descriptive documentary methodology, using a bibliographic design that allowed the collection and analysis of relevant information on the rate of discrimination against same-sex couples in Ecuador after the approval of equal marriage. Although the approval of equal marriage in Ecuador marks a significant advance in the protection of the rights of same-sex couples, this study reveals that the eradication of discrimination towards this community remains a considerable challenge. Jurisprudence and legal reforms have laid important foundations, but effective implementation faces deep-seated social and cultural barriers.
